Dear Community Members,
Greetings! I’m writing in regards to recycling in the towns of Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield, Peru, Roxbury, and Byron. Our community’s recycling system is struggling, and we’re hoping for your help in resolving the issue. Due to a lack of recycling, our towns are losing money. For the first time in a decade, the cost of solid waste and recycling services for each town is increasing.
The solid waste board members and I are hoping to get help from community members to spread the word about how recycling positively affects our community. All we need is your voice. It seems that we can talk and write about recycling all day long, but the message is only reaching so many ears. However, if people hear the message from various sources, specifically those they know, trust, and respect, they might hear the message and even listen to it.
The message we’d love for you to share, to whatever degree and in whatever context you feel comfortable, whether it’s in person, in writing, or on social media, is this:
We need more people to recycle. Everything that is not recycled ends up in the landfill, and landfill costs are high. The towns, a.k.a. taxpayers, pay these costs. Money is earned by selling recycled materials. The revenue must be higher than the cost to lower taxes and to provide affordable waste solutions for our community. Recycling is easy, especially with the systems in place, i.e. curbside pickup and transfer station drop-off. Please, recycle.
We hope that you will support our beneficial local recycling systems and our endeavor to save taxpayer dollars. Please, contact me for more information.
Sincerely,
Connie Money
