The Town of Rumford seeks a qualified professional to serve the community as its next Public Works Director. This position plans, coordinates, and reviews the activities of the public works department with an eye toward optimizing departmental performance. These activities include year-round maintenance of 80 miles of roads/streets, 20 miles of sidewalk, extensive sewer collection and storm drain systems, parks, walking trails and other town-owned facilities. The department’s scope also includes periodic capital rehabilitation of public infrastructure. In addition the department regularly interfaces with regional municipal districts that are independently responsible for handling solid waste, water, and wastewater treatment.

The overall budget under direct control of the Director exceeds $5 million with ten full-time employees plus additional seasonal help. The successful applicant will possess strong communication skills and significant experience in personnel supervision, administration, collective bargaining, road maintenance, road construction, equipment maintenance, budgeting, contract bidding, and contract administration. Minimum requirements for this job are demonstrated, in-depth knowledge of public works functions and proven supervisory experience.
